We are seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced professionals to join our Board of Directors. We are looking for dedicated individuals with a minimum of five to 10 years of board experience who can provide strategic guidance and governance oversight to help us achieve our mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities
As a Board Director, you will:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for Qtopia Sydney.
- Ensure sound governance practices and financial sustainability.
- Contribute to policy development and organisational strategy.
- Advocate for Qtopia Sydney and its mission in the broader community.
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings (held bi-monthly i.e. 6 per year).
- Act as an ambassador for Qtopia Sydney at public events and functions.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The eligibility criteria for Director appointments are set out in clause 5.2 of Qtopia’s constitution, which is publicly available on the ACNC Charity page.
Essential:
- Five to 10 years of experience serving on boards, preferably including corporate and not-for-profit organisations.
- Fundraising and philanthropy experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Strong governance knowledge and experience.
- Strategic thinking and leadership capabilities.
- Financial literacy and business acumen.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Connection to or understanding of LGBTQIA+ communities and issues.
Desirable:
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Arts and cultural management.
- Community engagement.
- Financial management.
- Government relations.
- Human Resources.
- Legal expertise and/or risk management.
- Marketing and communications.
- Museum or gallery leadership.
Time Commitment
- Board meetings are held bi-monthly (6 per year), typically lasting 2-3 hours.
- Attendance at key Qtopia Sydney events and functions.
- Fundraising activity.
- Total time commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month.
Remuneration
This is a voluntary position. Out-of-pocket expenses related to board duties will be reimbursed in accordance with Qtopia’s constitution and financial policies.

- How your experience meets the eligibility criteria set out in the constitution (clause 5.2) and selection criteria set out above.
- What unique perspective or expertise you would bring to the organisation.
2) A current resume (maximum 4 pages) highlighting your board experience and relevant professional background and/or personal experience.
3) Contact details of two professional referees.

Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the Board.
- Final recommendations will be approved by the Board.
- Successful applicant(s) will be provided with an appointment letter setting out the terms of their appointment and a consent to act to sign and return.
