Qtopia Sydney is thrilled to announce a series of Community Information Sessions at our permanent home at 301 Forbes St Darlinghurst.
After three years of hard work and significant community input, Qtopia Sydney is ready to invite the community to hear of the initial plans – what the building will look like, the first stories to be told, the education programs to be launched, the opportunities for community involvement and more.
These information sessions will welcome questions and discussions – formalising our mantra to all – “don’t complain – contribute” – because community input will forever be valued.
Qtopia Sydney CEO Greg Fisher said “The sessions are designed to inform both the Queer community and the wider community of an exciting new cultural institution and what it will deliver.
“We have made significant progress since the NSW Labor Government contributed our permanent home at 301 Forbes Street Darlinghurst plus $3,850,000 in cash support, and with Lead Curators and a Historian on board, supported by 12 enthusiastic and expert curators who will tell the stories of our community, it’s timely that we share our vision and progress.
Qtopia Sydney Director Ian Roberts added, “The experience, insights and personal journeys of the members of our own community, as well as the allies who have supported us, are essential in telling the stories of our past with accuracy, emotion, and celebration.
“They are also important in assisting us in our pledge to educate and engage and in doing so, work toward a future that embraces a cohesive community.
Initial sessions will be held at Qtopia Sydney at 6pm at 301 Forbes St Darlinghurst on:
Thursday 26 October and
Wednesday 1 November
For those who cannot attend the information sessions, Qtopia Sydney will be opening a dedicated Community Engagement Hub at The Bandstand in Green Park from 19th October 2023.
The exhibition will feature informative resources and a video presentation to provide visitors with an in-depth understanding of Qtopia Sydney’s mission, progress to date and upcoming plans.
Mr Fisher continued, “The Bandstand is a multipurpose venue which has hosted the majority of our exhibitions, as well as our fantastic Live at The Bandstand program since its opening in February.
“Extending its purpose to house a temporary community engagement hub opens greater possibilities for us to further interact with our local and wider community,” he concluded.
Based on the response to these sessions, Qtopia Sydney are hoping to introduce further sessions throughout November as developments progress.
