Qtopia Sydney Partners with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for 2025 Festival

Qtopia Sydney, the world’s largest centre for Queer history and culture, is proud to announce an exciting partnership with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) for the 2025 Mardi Gras Festival. This collaboration highlights a shared commitment to celebrating LGBTQIA+ resilience, visibility and inclusion through bold storytelling and community-driven initiatives.

The partnership comes at a pivotal moment as Qtopia Sydney reopened its doors on 29 January 2025, unveiling six new exhibitions that showcase the depth and diversity of Queer culture. As a Community Partner of Mardi Gras, Qtopia Sydney will play an integral role in this year’s festivities, further cementing its place as a cultural hub for the LGBTQIA+ community.

This partnership brings together two iconic organisations to deliver co-branded experiences and amplify Queer voices on a national scale. Key initiatives include:

Co-produced exhibition space: A co-branded exhibition at Qtopia Sydney, BE:DAZZLED Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Costume Extravaganza, celebrating iconic costumes and taking visitors on a journey through the festival’s rich history, featuring fabulour archival pieces.

Mardi Gras + programming: Qtopia Sydney’s February/March events will be part of the official “Mardi Gras +” open-access program, showcasing the festival’s community spirit.

Exclusive offers: Mardi Gras members will enjoy special perks, including 2-for-1 admission during the festival and reduced annual membership rates at Qtopia Sydney.

Parade participation: Qtopia Sydney will take its place in the iconic Mardi Gras Parade, spotlighting its mission of preserving and celebrating Queer history and culture.

Qtopia Sydney will also host SGLMG events, offering its venue as a space for celebration and reflection during the festival. “Partnering with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is an incredible opportunity to amplify the stories and experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Artistic and Programs Director, Carly Fisher.

“Mardi Gras is about uniting people through shared experiences and celebration. Partnering with Qtopia Sydney allows us to deepen our connection with the community while honouring the resilience and creativity that define Queer culture,” added SGLMG CEO, Gil Beckwith.

The Mardi Gras Festival runs from 14 February to 2 March 2025, featuring over 80 events, including the iconic Mardi Gras Parade, Fair Day and a host of exciting new performances.
