Qtopia Sydney is thrilled to announce the first stage of its 2025 exhibition season, featuring an extraordinary array of groundbreaking shows that celebrate resilience, creativity and the vibrant diversity of LGBTQIA+ culture. With a mix of art, history and personal storytelling, these exhibitions promise to challenge, inspire and celebrate Queer identity in Australia and beyond.
Located in the heart of Sydney, Qtopia Sydney is dedicated to preserving and showcasing Queer history, art and culture through dynamic exhibitions and events that inspire and educate.
“The 2025 program is a celebration of resilience, community and the unique stories that shape our collective LGBTQIA+ identity. We are thrilled to present a lineup that explores the depth and breadth of Queer experience, both locally and globally,” said George Savoulis, Curatorial Director.
Exhibition Highlights
The Male Body Is Still Taboo – 25 Years of DNA: Celebrating 25 years of DNA magazine, this exhibition examines censorship and societal taboos surrounding the male body, particularly within the gay community.
BEDAZZLED: Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Costume Extravaganza: A vibrant showcase of the iconic costumes that define Sydney Mardi Gras, this exhibition celebrates empowerment, self-expression and the artistry behind the festival’s spectacular designs.
Kylie Minogue & Queer Devotion: This immersive exhibition celebrates Kylie Minogue’s enduring bond with her LGBTQIA+ fanbase, showcasing memorabilia and exploring her activism, music and iconic moments as a cultural ally.
In My Closet: Joyce Maynge 25: Spotlighting drag icon Joyce Maynge, this debut in the ‘In My Closet’ series highlights her contributions to drag culture and activism within Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ community.
Hung: Archibald Prize finalist Jason Jowett presents a collection of uniquely crafted artworks exploring themes of passion, heartbreak and resilience through queer narratives.
Lesbians Redefining Our World: This exhibition celebrates trailblazing lesbian role models, including figures like Penny Wong and Sam Kerr OAM, whose journeys have paved the way for future generations.
