Past Performance
Themme Fatale | Live at the Bandstand
28 – 30 July 2023
Themme Fatale’, a daring and heartfelt cabaret that gives voice to the struggles and triumphs of what it is to be non-binary.
‘Themme Fatale’ was inspired by the concept “Imagine Sally Bowles, but Non-binary.”
As a non-binary performer, it is rare to play a part that you feel connected to on all scales, so I created one. ‘Themme Fatale’ is a cabaret that captures the comedy and sorrow of a 1930s performer who is tired of justifying their identity. This presentation, featuring music from Cabaret and Gypsy, is one you won’t want to miss.
“Where theatrical material meets the past and present, Robertson breathes fresh air into theatrical classics through an impassioned, and urgent tour de force. We are taken on a riveting journey of navigating being non-binary in a gendered society. Addy’s versatility as a performer shines through, with a performance oozing heart and humour. They’re not quite Sally Bowles, they’re not quite the MC they are something else entierly.”
Addy Robertson is currently in their final year of their tertiary studies at the Australian Institute of Music, where they are studying a Bachelor of Music (Musical Theatre). During their studies, they have established themselves as an in-demand performer appearing in productions such as ‘Isn’t it Queer’ (Little Triangle), ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’ (Little Triangle), ‘The Shift’ (Sydney Fringe, Andy Freeborn, Victoria Bullard) and ‘Nail’s Must Be Kept Short: The Warm Up’ (Fruitbox Theatre, Sophie Davis, Laura MacDonald). Addy is a proud Queer, Non-Binary performer who wrote ‘Themme Fatale’ for an assessment. Throughout the process, they developed such a connection to the work, that they decided to extend its life for audiences; they are so thrilled to be bringing this work to QTOPIA for its public premier.
