The QTOPIA project is of critical importance for the promotion and preservation of LGBTIQ+ history and culture in Australia. As a minority community who have historically experienced discrimination and marginalisation, the LGBTIQ+ community and the wider community would greatly benefit from the creation of a high profile, showcasing of LGBTIQ+ history and culture that seeks to engage with the wider community. While LGBTIQ+ rights in Australia are progressing there remains many equality battles to be won, histories to be celebrated and people to be remembered and commemorated. We believe QTOPIA will be a welcome addition to Sydney’s attraction as a tourist destination.
