We’re Here, We’re Queer is a celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride in Australia using maps, Queer terminology and colourful symbolism to loudly proclaim pride.
Growing up Queer can often feel lonely, living a coded seemingly invisible life dominated by external narratives of shame.
However, pride is the antidote to this shame. In ‘We’re Here, We’re Queer’, we see Queer is everywhere, the invisible becomes visible and shame becomes pride.
The exhibition features a touch screen map and static wall map of all of the current LGBTQIA+ pride events around Australia, from well-known large urban events to small regional events, showcasing pride in every corner of Australia.
The Periodic Table of LGBTQIA+ terms, visually charts from A to Z all of the groups, Queer-slang and double-entendre vernacular that makes up the Queer family.
The exhibition is a proclamation of the importance of being proud of Queerness.
