Saints of Damour

19 - 5 March 2025 at The Loading Dock

Review

Its heightened drama is built on irrefutable authenticity, with characters that are empathetic, genuine and multidimensional

Suzy Goes See

With all its charms, Elazzi’s Saints of Damour is an authentic emotional tale of gay love

Stage Whispers

Elazzi allows us to witness the emotional cost of hiding in plain sight and the quiet rebellion that comes from finally stepping into the light – however late and bruised

Theatre Travels

A new play by James Elazzi is an event, and Saints of Damour is one such

Stage Noise

An epic story of love, migration and identity unfolding across continents and decades.

1970s Lebanon. Pierre falls in love with Samir in the humble village of Damour, south of Beirut. When civil war breaks, Pierre is forced to leave Samir behind and escape into an arranged marriage, migrating to Australia and becoming someone new. But can you really leave the past behind?

Haunted by his memories of Samir, Pierre attempts to forge multiple new lives for himself. From a tomato farm in rural Queensland to the streets of Darlinghurst, he tries to outrun his past - until something forces him to stop running.

Saints of Damour is a special new work from playwright James Elazzi that honours voices lost to history and reminds us of the privilege of living truthfully.
