Chile Bainbridge
Past ExhibitionExhibition Dates: June 2025 to November 2025
Curator: Chile Bainbridge (June 2025 to November 2025)
This exhibition presents new work by multidisciplinary artist Chile Bainbridge, marking their first solo presentation at Qtopia Sydney. Based on Bidjigal and Gadigal Country, Bainbridge’s practice spans sculpture, photomedia, and installation, and is characterised by abstraction, humour, and an embodied engagement with trans experience.
The exhibition brings together recent works that explore gender, self-representation, and community through material experimentation and visual play. Bainbridge’s approach resists fixed narratives, instead proposing fluid and open-ended ways of thinking about identity and belonging. Across the exhibition, form and texture are used to suggest both intimacy and transformation, situating the body as a site of inquiry rather than definition.
Presented following Bainbridge’s receipt of the Fire Up Award at the National Art School, the exhibition introduces a distinctive emerging voice within contemporary queer art practice. It positions Bainbridge’s work within ongoing conversations around trans visibility, artistic agency, and the evolving languages of queer expression.
